How to Track Your Claims and Deadlines with Owed
Owed Pro keeps your settlement claims in one place: the settlements you may qualify for, each one's deadline, what you've submitted and what has paid. You still submit every claim yourself, on the settlement administrator's official form. Owed gets you to that form and keeps track of everything around it.
This is the official walkthrough, written by the team that builds Owed, so read it as that. It follows a claim from the quiz to the Wallet, then ends with a free spreadsheet method if you'd rather not pay for anything.
The costs, up front: Owed Pro is $2 for the first week, then $49 per year β one flat membership. Owed never takes a percentage of any payout. Browsing Owed's settlements directory needs no account, and filing directly with a settlement administrator is always free. Owed runs in any phone or desktop browser; there's no app-store app yet.
Step 1: Take the quiz to get your matches
Owed Pro starts with a short quiz about which companies and products you've used, and which state you live in. Your answers become your personal list of settlements you may qualify for.
Once Owed knows your state, it hides settlements limited to other states, so you're not scrolling past cases you can't claim.
A match means you may qualify, not that you do. Each settlement's class definition decides who's in, and the court and the administrator have the final say. Answer the quiz honestly: claim forms usually ask you to confirm under penalty of perjury that your answers are true.
Step 2: Open a claim and read its instructions
Open any match to see its plain-English instructions. Each one covers four things:
- Who qualifies. Read this first. If it doesn't describe you, skip the claim.
- What you can get. Treat it as an estimate, not a promise. The court and the administrator set the amounts.
- Whether proof is needed. If it is, find your receipts, statements or account details before you open the form.
- The deadline. The last day the administrator accepts claims.
Not sure what counts as proof? Our guide to whether you need proof of purchase walks through it.
Step 3: Submit the claim yourself on the official form
Open the official form
Each claim has a button that opens the administrator's official claim form. The administrator is appointed by the court and never charges a fee to file. You fill in the form and submit it on the administrator's website, not inside Owed.
Fill it in and submit
- Answer only what's true for you, and only claim what you qualify for.
- Upload proof if the form asks for it.
- Pick how you'd like to be paid, if the form gives you a choice.
- Before you close the page, copy the confirmation number or save the confirmation email.
For a step-by-step walkthrough of the form itself, see how to file a class action claim.
Tap "I submitted it"
Back in Owed, tap "I submitted it" on that claim. You can paste in the confirmation number too. It's optional, but it's the detail you'll want if you ever need to contact the administrator about your claim.
What each claim status means
Every claim you mark as submitted goes into your claim tracker and moves through these statuses:
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted | You've filed the claim on the official form. | Keep the confirmation number and any emails from the administrator. |
| Approved | The claim has been accepted. | Wait. Payments go out after final approval and any appeals. |
| Paid | The money has been paid. | Cash or deposit it promptly. Settlement checks often expire. |
| Rejected | The claim was denied. | Read the administrator's notice. If it explains how to fix a problem, follow its steps and deadline. |
The gap between submitted and paid is usually the long part. Payments go out after the court's final approval and after any appeals are resolved, which often takes months and sometimes more than a year. Our guide to how long settlement payouts take explains why.
The administrator's own emails and website are the official record of your claim, so keep them alongside the tracker.
Notifications: new matches, deadline reminders and payout alerts
Owed Pro has three kinds of notifications, and you can switch each one on or off:
- New matches: when a settlement fits your quiz answers.
- Deadline reminders: 7 days and 24 hours before a claim closes.
- Payout alerts: about money from your claims.
Treat the 7-day reminder as your cue to file, and the 24-hour reminder as a last call. If proof is needed, that week gives you time to find it.
Deadlines sometimes change. Owed re-checks live cases for deadline changes, but the date on the administrator's website is the one that counts.
The Wallet: estimated vs. collected
The Wallet shows two figures side by side: estimated earnings from claims still in progress, and the money you've actually collected.
The estimate is a guide, not a promise. Courts and administrators set the amounts, and many payouts are pro rata: your share shrinks as more valid claims come in. Many no-proof claims pay small amounts. The collected figure is the real one.
Owed never holds your money. Payouts come from the settlement administrator straight to you. Whether a payout is taxable depends on your situation, so talk to a tax professional if you're unsure.
Cancelling your plan or deleting your account
- To cancel: go to Profile β Cancel plan. You can cancel anytime; otherwise Owed Pro renews yearly.
- In your first week: cancel before the 7 days end to avoid the $49 annual charge. Here's how the $2 first week works.
- Refunds: email support@claimowedmoney.com within 14 days of a charge for a full refund of that charge. On an annual plan there's also a payout guarantee: if payouts from at least 10 valid claims you submitted through Owed in a membership year add up to less than the fees you paid that year, Owed refunds the difference. Conditions apply; see pricing.
- To delete your account: open your profile and scroll to the bottom. Deleting removes your account and its data, except anything Owed must keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons.
Cancelling Owed doesn't withdraw claims you've already submitted. They sit with the administrator, and any payment goes from the administrator to you. Before you cancel, copy your confirmation numbers and open deadlines somewhere you control, like the spreadsheet below.
Doing it without Owed: a free spreadsheet and calendar method
You don't need Owed, or any app, to keep track of claims. Filing directly with a settlement administrator is always free, and a spreadsheet plus your phone's calendar covers the basics.
The free method. Make a spreadsheet with one row per claim and these columns:
- Settlement and case name
- Official settlement website
- Claim deadline
- Proof needed, and what you sent
- Date submitted
- Confirmation number
- Payment method you chose
- Status: submitted, approved, paid or rejected
- Amount received, and when
For each claim you plan to file, add two calendar events: one 7 days before the deadline and one the day before. Paste the official website into the event notes. Make an email folder or label for administrator emails, and update the status column once a month.
What you give up: you'll have to find settlements yourself, and nothing will tell you when a new one fits you. Owed's settlements directory is free to browse without an account, and each case page notes that you can file directly with the administrator at no cost. Its "Start claim" button leads into Owed's sign-up, so for the free route, go to the administrator's website yourself; case pages name the administrator when it's known.
